Frequently asked questions

The questions below are some we have been asked frequently.  All questions will be answered through the KJV bible with Book, Chapter and Verse.
2Timothy 3: 16   All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Q:  What is the difference between a Non denominational church and a Denominational church?

A:  A Non denominational church lives by evey word that proceeds from the mouth of God through their practices and doctrinal teachings with Christ as the head of the church.
A Denominational church uses man made doctrinal teachings and another name to identify their religious following. Christ name, may or may not be used in the identity of that Church.  They usually use a leader over all their churches to direct the practices and policies of their religious group.
Matt. 4:4  It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Remember, that all scripture must agree and harmonize with the doctrine taught by Jesus Christ, and must go hand in hand with those teachings and practices.

Q:  Does the size of the congregation or the place in which they worship matter?

A:  Matt 18:20  For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
Christ taught us that no matter where you meet, as long as there are two or more gathered in his name and following his doctrinal teachings and instruction, there he will be in the midst of that congregation.  There are some Church of Christ churches that do not have a "Church building" or form of a church to meet in, so a meeting place is usually in a building that may or may not look like a church.  When a baptism is done, they can use another Church of Christ baptistry or even a body of water near by in order to fulfill the requirement of baptism to join Christ church.
The church is not brick and mortar, but the precious souls that have obeyed the gospel and are now members of the body of Christ.
Acts 2:41-42.47  Then they that gladly received his word were baptized; and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.  And they continued stedfastly in the apostles doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
Praising God, and having favour with all the people.  And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Q:  Why are women not allowed to preach or carry out worship service?

A:  1Cor. 14:34  Let your women keep silence in the churches; for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
1Tim. 2:11-12  Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.  But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
There are some duties that a woman can do in the church, as long as it does not put her in authority over the man. Teaching Bible study, performing worship service are duties only men that are worthy should do.  A woman can instruct the young women on how they can take care of their families and husband and also show the young children how to obey the gospel and how to conduct themselves in this present world.

Q:  Why must you be baptized, and why does it have to be by immersion only?

A:  John 3:3-5  Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born agian, he cannot see the kingdom of God.  Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old?  can he enter the second time into his mothers womb, and be born?  Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
1Cor. 12:13  For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jew or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
Jesus taught us the method of baptism by example.  He himself was baptized by John the baptist, who preached in the wilderness the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins (Mark 1:4).  Jesus always showed us by example and by God's word how we are to do things.
Mark 1:9-11  And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.  And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him; And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Q:  Why do you not use musical instruments in worship service? Why do you sing acapella?

A:  Eph. 5:19  Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
Colossians 3:16  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Q:  Why does the Church of Christ only use the King James Version Bible?

A:  The original scriptures were written in Hebrew (Old Testament) and in Greek (New Testament).
William Tyndale had excellent credentials for work of translation.  His knowledge on translation of both Hebrew and Greek were done verbatim and precise.  He completed the translation of the New Testament from Greek to English and published it in 1534.  His work on the Old Testament came later.
William Tyndale has been credited for having the most accurate and precise translation of the Greek and Hebrew scripts.
We at the Church of Christ beleive that the King James Version Bible published in 1611, a compilation of the translations done by William Tyndale, to be the most accurate and precise translation into english of the scriptures that were written by men of God inspired by the Holy Spirit and put into our hands for instruction and doctrinal teaching and traditional practices for the worshipping of God through Jesus Christ.
2Tim. 3:16  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

Q:  Why do we live by the New Testament and not the Old Testament?

A:  Heb. 8:13  In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.
Heb. 9:15-17  And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. For where a testator is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.  For a testament is of force after men are dead; otherwise it is of no stregnth at all while the testator liveth.
Heb. 10:9  Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God.  He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
When Christ died on the cross in AD30,  the Old Testament with it's statutes and ordinances were changed or done away with, and the new testament became effective.  We live by the New Testament under the laws, statutes and ordinances that Christ put in effect.

Q:  Why is it commanded that we worship on a Sunday, the first day of the week?

A:  Matt. 28:1  In the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
Matt. 28:18-19  And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost.
Luke 24:1-3  Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.  And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.  And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
Heb. 10:25  Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Acts 20:7  And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

In summation, Christ rose from the dead on a Sunday morning. Christ told his apostles on the Mount of Olives 40 days after he had risen from the dead, that they were to wait in the city of Jerusalem to receive the powers from on high not many days from hence.  On the day of Pentacost, the apostle Peter preached to the multitude that had gathered from every nation under heaven in the city of Jerusalem and preached the church into existence. This is one of the reasons that we worship God through Jesus Christ on Sunday.
Rev. 1:10  I was in the Spirit on the Lords day, and heard behind me a great voice as of a trumpet,
